We Celebrate and Reflect

Today we celebrate the 67th Israel Independence Day and thank Hashem for the goodness he has bestowed upon us. After 2,000 years of exile, we established a sovereign Jewish nation which serves as the ingathering of all those who want to return to our Promised Land.

I was born shortly after Israel became an Independent Jewish State. My parents and in laws who came of age during the 1930’s and 40’s had a very different Jewish reality then I did. While Israel offers us a safe, secure, and democratic homeland, we cannot take Israel for granted. We must continue to work toward its security and to pray that it will remain a safe haven for all of its citizens.
Rabbi Halberstam who survived the Holocaust helped to build Israel by establishing the Lianado Hospital, the Lev Lalev Orphanage, and an old age home in the Kiryat Sanz neighborhood in Netanya. His tireless work has yielded many dividends- young woman who had no families of their own but who through Lev Lalev have established strong and vibrant Israeli families.

Despite eight wars and countless skirmishes, international sanctions, and day-to day terrorist attacks, “Am YIsrael Chai” Israel and the Jewish people live.
We thank all of you for making Lev Lalev your personal connection to Israel.

The following words were penned by an American Jew who has visited Israel many times.
Israel is a miracle
Israel is a homeland for Jews who have ingathered from the Diaspora, speaking many tongues and languages, all proclaiming: We Are One
Israel offers all Jews- in fact all people- HOPE
Israel is a democracy in a region where brutality and terror prevails
Israel is a light unto the nations
Israel’s orphans and poor are our orphans
Israel is my inspiration

Wishing all of our friends a happy Yom Haatzmot; and thank you for standing together with Israel.
