Tisha B’Av: August 8-9, 2011

Tisha B’Av, the saddest day on the Jewish calendar. We fast and mourn the loss of both the First Temple in 586 BCE and the Second Temple in 70 CE, as well as other tragic events that befell the Jewish people throughout history.

We remember that we are a nation without a Temple, our G-d is without a home. Where is our hope?

It lies with the children of today, who will build the future homes of Israel, based on how we express our care and concern for their futures.

As our stomach suffers hunger pangs, consider investing in feeding a disadvantaged girl for a day or a month.  As you remove your fine leather shoes; how about providing a pair for the girl who shows up to the Children’s Home in Netanya with shoes so worn she is nearly barefoot?

On Tisha B’Av we pray for G-d’s home to be rebuilt. Let’s create the foundation of that home by helping these girls in Israel to rebuild themselves from the ashes of a tragic past.

May our actions today inspire a brilliant future for the entire world.
