Guest Post: 3 Gifts For A Charitable Soul

With gifts it’s all about the giving. Well it might not be when we’re young but it certainly should be by the time we reach adulthood. If you’re looking to give a gift that will benefit as many people as possible supporting one of these charitable projects is certainly the way to go. Giving has never felt so good…

A Cow

You might be wondering how giving your recipient a cow can be considered charitable. Well it’s not for them directly, and will be sent to poor families in Africa.

The British charity Send A Cow has been running for more than 20 years and helps secure the long term future of African families by providing them with livestock (in the form of cows) and seeds. They also provide an extensive training programme and continued to support to help secure each families future for generations to come.

Maybe the person you’re buying for has a different favourite farmyard animal? If that’s the case there are plenty of alternatives that do just as much good. You could buy them some chickens, an alpaca or even a yak for a family in Tibet. These are all gifts that so many people will be grateful for.

Toms

If you’re looking to for a charitable gift that the recipient can you use you can’t go wrong with a pair of Toms shoes. Firstly they’re a great product. They’re super cool and unbelievably comfortable; the perfect choice for your summer holiday.

But buying a pair of Toms is much more than a fashion statement. For every pair of shoes that are sold the company donates another to children who need them most around the world. In the world’s poorest countries many children work, learn and play barefoot. This gives them cuts and sores that can become infected, and also enhances their chances of catching one of an increasing number of diseases transmitted by the soil.

In September 2010 the company celebrated giving away their one millionth pair of shoes, and gifting a pair of Toms to a friend or family member will help the phenomenon grow even further.

A Gift Card

When people can’t think of a suitable present for their recipient they often turn to the gift card. But don’t worry we’re not talking about a £10 voucher for HMV. Global Giving offer gift cards that that let the recipient choose which charity project they want to donate to. And with thousands of projects to choose from the opportunity to help is pretty much endless.

Some of the most popular projects currently listed on the site are providing food for malnourished children in Ghana, helping protect the ancient Buddhist culture of Tibet and educating the children of rape victims in the Democratic Republic of Congo. There are so many inspiring projects to choose from that you’ll want to buy a gift card for all your friends.
